The International Design Yearbook

Derek Frost's work was selected by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki for
inclusion in the International Design Yearbook 1988/89

The 20th century began with an Arts and Crafts Movement in both Britain and America. It seems poised to end with another. Not with an earnest revival of handcarving but with a movement that turns furniture into art.

Decorators who move into furniture design invariably bring with them a sumptuousness of finish and extravagant use of colour and surface pattern.
Derek Frost is no exception. His furniture collection is boldly derivative in it's exaggeration of familiar forms from the past. Many of his furniture pieces are unique commissioned objects of high character and quality inspired by a wide range of visual references. They are made by some of the best makers, artists and craftsmen working in the UK.  One piece may be the result of 3 or 4 craftsmen working together combining gilding, marquetry and custom metal work with the finest cabinet work.
